Dr Jan Albers studied law in Hamburg and obtained his Master of Laws from the University of Hamburg. He received a PhD scholarship from the International Max Planck Research School for Maritime Affairs and wrote his dissertation on the topic of ‚Responsibility and Liability in the Context of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes by Sea: Existing Rules and the 1999 Liability Protocol to the Basel Convention‘. 2009/2010 he was an employees of the United Nations International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (Management IFLOS Summer Academy). He has been admitted to practise law since 2014.
